10 persons still live in this idyllic valley on a permanent basis.
In 1900 the population was 92.
 

Roads

Previous to 1986 inhabitants used boats to cross the fjord before they were connected by road.

Eikenes farm

Farms

Eikenes farm has Casmir goats and sheep to maintain the culture landscape. Farmer Kjell at Bråthun deliveres milk and sheep for slaughter.

Bakke samdrift  (Bakke Coop) was established in 1974 by the brothers Kåre and Anfinn, they have 36 cattle and are the largest milk producers in Mauranger.

The mini power station in Gjetingsdalen

From waterwheel to turbine

Although agriculture is the main income, a mini power station; Gjetingsdalen kraft A/S was established in 2007. It has an annual turnover of 9.7 gwh and more stations are in the planning.

 

Village hall

Previously a school, the village hall is used for social events today.

  

Walks/hikes

Gjetingsdalen is a good  starting point for your walks and hikes to Jondal, Kysnesstranda or the mountainside. Hire a local guide as the trails are unmarked.
