The landscape

The village is situated at the mouth of the Maurangerfjord and has a sunny and open landscape compared to the other villages  further in the fjord. Ænes has the most breathtaking view from Gygrastol overlooking the Hardangerfjord and into the valley of Ænes.

Ænes church (1190-1200)

Situated in the middle of the village it is Kvinnherad`s smallest and oldest church. All the villages belongs to Ænes parish.    Read more here.

A nice farmerhouse

New sources of income

The Ænes valley has always had a large forest and the farmers has been able to make their living from the harvest of timber.

Sawmill industry has been an important income for the farmers of the village throughout the ages, the sawmill still produce timber.

Tourism and salmon breeding is the main income for the farmers today along with new settlers commuting to Odda and Rosendal for work.

Ænes has enjoyed a new era with the opening of the tunnel (2001) between Kvinnherad and Odda with people wanting to settle down or enjoying their holiday in the village. The campsite is expanding all the time and Ænes has 100 inhabitants.
